The Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Ireland was established in 1954. It is situated in an early nineteenth century Georgian building in the centre of Dublin, in Fitzwilliam Square, architecturally one of the most 'historic' and interesting squares in the city, facing a beautiful private park.

The building, part of the Irish Cultural Heritage, was purchased by the Italian Government in 1974. In 1987 a substantial restoration was undertaken, maintaining the original structures and enhancing those particular interior features which characterise it as one of the best preserved Georgian buildings in Dublin.
