XVII WEEK OF ITALIAN LANGUAG EIN THE WORLD: Annual Society for Pirandello Studies Conference 2017 - Exploring Pirandello’s Islands of the Map and Mind

Annual Society for Pirandello Studies Conference, 2017
Exploring Pirandello’s Islands of the Map and the Mind
13-14 October 2017
VENUE: Italian Cultural Institute, Dublin (11 Fitzwilliam Square East, Dublin 2)
In English and Italian

The annual conference of the Society for Pirandello Studies aims to embrace a wide variety of methods and approaches to Pirandello’s œuvre, and to bring together theatre professionals, critics and scholars representing a range of disciplines. Hosted by the Italian Institute of Culture in Dublin, in conjunction with the Department of Italian at University College Cork and the support of the Society for Italian Studies, the conference is also part of a wider global initiative celebrating the 150th anniversary of Pirandello’s birth: Pirandello International 2017. The framework behind these events is the definition of Pirandello’s œuvre as a space of cultural negotiation that provides a new perspective on the contemporary world and culture; a space where individual points of view, cultures, and faiths are constantly negotiated, where “certainties” are called into question and where hybridity is pervasive. In this context the Society for Pirandello Studies conference focuses on exploring the “peripheries” that we find inscribed in Pirandello’s works. The “Islands” referred to in the title are both real and metaphorical, physical spaces, real or imagined, and states of mind or points of view, at once insider and outsider, and suggestive of the plurality inherent in Pirandello’s poetics.
